What did you do tonight?

Yeah, so it’s almost 4am. That happens. I just played Axis & Allies for six hours. The best part was the two Germans played the Axis and three Americans were the Allies. The game petered out after six hours because so many people had fallen asleep at the table. Christof and I were in it till the bitter end, but unfortunately we decided to play with n00bz.

My personal strategy, as America on the Allies team, was to just go by what history textbooks have taught me:

  1. Do jack shit for a long time while Britain and the Soviet Union get rocked.
  2. Coyly build up Pacific defenses, but wait for Japan to piss you off. Act like you give a shit about islands just so Germany doesn’t see you coming out of the west.
  3. Offer your allies (and, what the hell, enemies too!) usurious rates on loans which can be repaid after V-Day. Because, I mean, you’re gonna win.
  4. Africa is a shithole. Ignore it. Hitler never wanted it anyway and Mussolini was a pussy.

My team totally would have won if they hadn’t fallen asleep. I was just about to A-Bomb Bernie, but she was asleep, and I just felt bad.

Ah, well. Next time we’ll play on a Saturday, starting early in the morning, but this Saturday is Oktoberfest. So maybe another time.
