Oktoberfest draws nigh

My friend Jim from Drexel is arriving this afternoon. I have to depart shortly to meet him and his sister at the train station, and thereafter the day is pretty open. Maybe we’ll stroll over to the Englischer Garten, scope out some beer gardens, push Jim in the Eisbach. Play it by ear. Nico is itching to play some Fußball and/or frisbee, so I’ve tentatively agreed with him to make that happen later today. I’ll see how Jim and his sister feel about it.

Coordinating social events without cell phones is really interesting. Everything has larger time windows, of course, and also expiration dates, e.g. “OK Nico, try to be there by 2:45pm. If we’re not there by 3pm, something went wrong and we can’t come, so we’ll see you back at the dorms later on.”

It’s quite liberating.

Tonight there might not be partying, because apparently the rule for Oktoberfest is that you show up by 8am on the field to start getting hammered. Don’t want to miss out on that! And this year Oktoberfest should be way better than last year.

I’ll try not to delay posting pictures for too long, but I don’t expect to be chasing hotspots too often this weekend. Expect lots early next week.
