No class schedule yet
I’m still trying to add courses to my week. I’d originally picked out six or seven courses, thinking that was a decent, load, and then I find out that students here usually take over ten courses per semester. Yikes. So right now I’m trying to slop on more work, but it’s tricky, because so many interesting classes are cross-scheduled with one another.
Another problem is that cool courses are too popular. I just tried to attend “Chemistry in Archaeology,” and the lecture hall was so packed there were students sitting on the floor. I’d bumped into about four students on the way to the room, and when we got there, the professor just looked at us and shook her head. Damn.
Tonight, though, there’s a course called “Radioactivity: Elements of its Discovery and Historical Applications in Technology.” That’s an ugly translation, but I gather the glass is about radioactivity, which is cool. Figured it would be a halfway decent substitute for the Chemistry in Archaeology course, as it might go over half-lives and carbon dating and suchwhat. Here’s hoping.
Other than that, still playing it by ear. The present candidates for classes are:
- Algorithms and Data Structures I
- Chinese II
- Operating Systems: Threading and Synchronization
- Chemistry in Archaeology (maybe in a few weeks some students will drop it, and I can pounce)
- Radioactivity
- Computer Networking I
- European Myths in the Present
- The European Union (I hear this is full too, but I’m going to try anyway)
- Programming I
- Looking at e-society from an international perspective
- Methods of Observation
- Ethical Foundations for Working in the Social Sciences
- Literature Seminar
Now, I’ll be very lucky if I end up taking half of those courses, as several of them are cross-scheduled, so I’ll have to choose. This means I still have to try to add some courses to the list to choose from. I’ll be working on a lot today and tomorrow.
I’ll post more when I know more.
