Dilbert’s always been a favorite comic strip of mine. I think that over the past several years, the quality of it has declined, as the author just doesn’t need to try anymore. It seems like he gets so many submissions for ideas from disgruntled office workers that the strip pretty much writes itself. Well, good for him. I read his blog daily and I must say that is generally much more satisfying than Dilbert for me. But today Dilbert was a welcome surprise:
That pleases me very much. I’m going to use these quips constantly throughout the week, and possibly longer. It’s especially relevant to my life because I desperately want a huge widescreen monitor to hook up to my laptop, but I’m trying to be a good student and hoard my stipend diligently.
I figured I’d take this opportunity to link to some of my favorite webcomics, as there are some damn good, if obscure, ones out there.
- Basic Instructions. This has recently gotten a lot of attention because Scott Adams has linked to it repeatedly and stated his intent to get the author syndicated in newspapers. My absolutely favorite is How to Disguise a Yawn.
- A Lesson Is Learned. Now defunct, but I really enjoy trawling through the archives. Some sweet cuts include Morning, Sleepy Head! and the short but sweet THIS WILL BE DECIDED IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY. I think the artistic style is refreshingly competent for any comic, though that’s one of the beauties of publishing independently, I suppose.
- xkcd. This one is very often hit or miss, but the it’s worth scoping out occasionally for small laughs.
- Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. This one is brutally odd, so I saved it for last. Please go nuts on the Random button, but brace yourself.
And that’s pretty much that. Thanks for playing.
