My favorite Vikings
Just read that Amon Amarth have posted a tour diary about this year’s tour, Wrath Of The Norsemen 2007.

I should take a moment to mention that the tour name is a reference to one of their 1337est songs, off, of course, the Versus The World album:
Amon Amarth – Thousand Years Of Oppression
After a thousand years of oppression, let the berserks rise again
Let the world hear these words once more:
“Save us, oh Lord, from the wrath of the Norsemen!”
It’s actually a pretty deep song, because it’s about the rejection of Christianity and its proselyatization by sword, but it incorporates post-Christianity Norse imagery as the archetype for what is to be guarded. For example, the song opens with a passage about Oden hanging from Yggdrasil the world tree, pierced by his own spear, the sacrifice he underwent in order to save the world by what he learned of the nature of creation and destruction.
Anyway, the tour diary up right now is decently badass for something hosted on MySpace, and I recommend you check it out. If you do, you’ll get to see pictures like this:

I promise you, there are many pictures like that.
