Beowulf what!

A friend here got tickets to an advanced screening of the Beowulf movie, so I’ll be grunting and throwing around popcorn in a theater tonight. I’m very much looking forward to it, as it mixes up my normal routine of grunting and throwing around beer bottles in my room.

Beowulf rocks

I’m very much looking forward to how (or should I say whether?) the cinematography complements the CGI. From the previews I’ve seen, the target audience is definitely gamers, as every shot selected for the trailer had a distinct feeling of being lifted right from a video game cutscene.

Speaking of video games, in searching for fun images to stick in this post, I found an animated GIF of the warrior from Diablo 1. I’m really happy about this.

Hack! Slash!

Well, here’s hoping Neil Gaiman didn’t totally hose this one.

Obligatory feminist comment: I read an interview with Ray Winstone (Beowulf) wherein he talked about wearing the lightsuits for the CGI, and that the women selected for the cast needed very little physical modifications compared to the men, whose bodies are in reality laughable, but it didn’t matter cuz it would be fixed via computer. But to cast a woman in that situation was just not gonna happen.

Oh man, it was so sexist, it just ROCKED. And I’m sure there are technical reasons they had to cast whom they did.

    Technical reasons like Angelina Jolie.

Ok, but when you and your Drexel buddies get to writing your screenplays, do this same movie with Boadicea or Scathach. Heck, even Grania O’Malley since Pirates are in. See, and you can have THEM fighting naked.
