The other day, I was up late conversing with my doppelganger Alex, swapping links. He has previously complimented me on my surfing mojo, telling me that I’m fit for a position as a professional surfer. But he recently upped the ante on the compliment with this monumental quote:
“If you lived 100 years ago, you’d be a world class adventurer. But since you have a laptop and a ton of bandwidth, you’re just a nerd.”
I find Alex’s ideas intriguing, and find myself wishing to subscribe to his newsletter.
That implies that there are no adventurers today, with which supposition I disagree.
Number of adventures in ages past > number of nerds today > number of adventurers today > number of nerds in ages past
where “nerd” = “computer geek” and “adventurer” means man in a croc-suit.
