The night tragedy befell me

I was at work at Joey’s tonight, and near the end of the shift, one of the guys in the kitchen asked what kind of pizza I wanted. Standard operating procedure is that every employee gets one free (small) pizza per shift—work a double shift, get two pizzas. I laughed because I always get a Hawaiian pizza, and he knew that. While we’re talking about it, the boss overhears and chimes in, “Oh, right… at yesterday’s employee meeting [which I totally did not attend, because I had the afternoon off and I'll be damned if I'm going to go back into that place on my shift off] we worked out something new.”

Hooboy.

Turns out that when I’m not working, I can still order pizzas for delivery at 50% off. That’s nice. But now while on shift, instead of a free pizza, it’s 75% off. So I had to pay €1.60 for my pizza tonight, and I was pissed. At the rates Germans tip, that’s like 4 tips piled up together and deducted from my earnings for the evening.

It worked out OK, I guess, because they let me off a half hour early, which meant I got to drive the entire shift—Sundays are by far our busiest days—and then jump ship as soon as the mops and buckets were deployed.

But still, without that free pizza every night, I’m going to be in a bad mood coming off of work.
