Rivers love my phones

I did two tours yesterday. By the time the evening tour rolled around, I was quite buzzed, because I drink and eat for free at this job. Free Maßes in the beer garden and free cocktails at a bar afterward.

While at the river surfers, I pulled out my phone, which is my sole timekeeping apparatus since my watch got ripped off my arm at a concert. Because I was perhaps a little tipsy, as I flipped open the phone, it leapt out of my hand and went kerploosh in a pool of water on the bank of the river.

This is only funny because right before coming to Germany, I’d let my American cell phone go kerploosh in the Wissahickon, when I myself went kerploosh in the river—sober.

Having learned from my mistake last time, yesterday I promptly snatched the phone up, bobbled it, but did not let it fall into the river proper, and ripped the battery off the back.

I left the battery out for several hours until I was all parts were adequately dry, and then gave it a shot.

It works.

Hoof!
