I wasn’t that well traveled before we met, most of it has been since I met you.

I could probably make some horrible comment about the people you love the most in this world and you would still find a way to compliment me about it.

@Jim Thanks a lot, bro. Actually, I think it was you who first gave me insight into what it is travel can do for one. You were well traveled before I met you, and over the course of our friendship, you've never strayed from straying. I don't necessarily know exactly what your perspective might be, but seeing you write about your time in Japan has been an awesome experience for me. Thanks for remembering to share.

I really enjoyed this post and the last one. I don’t have enough intellectually curious friends and certainly don’t have many friends who can articulate their experiences as clearly as you do.

You also really put things into perspective for me. I live in a world of science and technology and yet all that does is transport me to different places. I can go anywhere in the world on a plane or find information on the Internet, but as you pointed out I’d only be seeing it with such a limited worldview, that I’d hardly be seeing anything at all.

Thanks, I’m glad this resonated with you somehow. For me, I’m just still stunned at how much stuff there is in the world. I feel like: Why didn’t anybody ever tell me?

This feeling reminds me of a poem by Robert Bly, a portion of which goes:

Why did I let so many centuries go by?
You know how difficult it is to receive a human
Body these days at birth! Don’t lose this chance!
Clamp your legs tight against the saddle.

most of blogs i follow are about pop culture, or worse, attempts at being terribly witty about pop culture.. – it’s nice to visit here and get something “different”.. – i enjoy your reflections and meditations on language, learning, beings social, introspection, and the self.. – it’s a joy to read the thoughts of someone whom one feels is going on a similar journey as their own..
