I so rarely binge on authors that I think I'm going to start doing it more, just for the hell of it. Nothing reads as fast as a Pratchett book, so it'll be harder to do it with other authors, but I'm game for that.

Several times now I've recommended The Dispossessed. Did you like it as much as everyone else, or am I a hopeless hippie?

i would say that your perception of my me is pretty accurate. it does have a lack of consistency, though. after reading dune, i plowed through all the Herbert I could find, and did a similar thing with Dick. I really enjoyed The Left Hand of Darkness, also by Le Guin, and I didn't even consider grabbing another of her novels. I don't know what triggers rabid fandom, but i'm happy flying blind for now.

When you find something you like, especially in science fiction, do you tend to plow through many books by the same author, one after the other? For some reason I have an impression that you do, but maybe that's reserved only for the authors you really, really love.

The only time I can ever remember doing that myself was with Terry Pratchett books. With stuff like this, I dabble uncontrollably.

I probably won't read another Le Guin book for months, although I loved The Dispossessed. I definitely highly recommend it. Rather a paragon of soft SF, in my terribly unenlightened opinion.
