The problem, I think, is that I hate bands like Scar Symmetry, so stuff like this just builds up, because I don't vent it by listening to nonsensical songs like "Quantum Emblem" and "Cosmic Exploration Pattern".

Maybe I should revise my methods.

Redemption? Understanding redemption? But how can you understand redemption when you do not understand hell? You’ve seen the face of hell, in the Aussie yobs getting pissed at the Hoffbrahaus. Now do yourself a favour, moit. Come and live in Australia... find out how toxic this culture is. Feel the toxin wash gently over you. And then, as you strive to clamber back out of the abyss, if you've retained your sanity, you will have achieved something, and it is then and only then that you will know what redemption is. ;-)

You think I'm joking, don't you. :-(

I think I need a lifetime of that.

I remember one time in Taiwan, talking with an old man in a park who had been practicing tai chi (at least, I think it was tai chi). It was near dawn, so things were foggy still. He spoke in short bursts couched between long pauses, but damn, he was a deep thinker.

Thinking he'd be an invaluable resource, I reached into my bag and pulled out a book; I wanted his perspective on where I'd gotten tripped up translating (or understanding).

He said simply, "I cannot read."

It's still amazing to me that I heard this first as "I don't read books," even though he distinctly said "<em>cannot</em> read".

That moment certainly taught me a lot. Gave me a stillness for a while, like a concussion. Sadly, it's wearing off.
